How to Deal with Typical Faults of Electromagnetic Flow Meters

Aug 11 , 2023

As a common industrial flow monitoring device, electromagnetic flow meter will inevitably have some failure in the process of use. When problems occur, we usually need to analyze the cause and then find a solution. Below we will analyze some common problems and tell you how to deal with.

No flow output

Check whether there is a fault in the power supply, and test whether the power supply voltage is normal; whether the fuse is on or off; whether the arrow of the sensor is consistent with that of the fluid, if not, change the installation direction of the sensor; check whether the sensor is full of fluid(for regular electromagnetic type flow meter, non-full tube magnetic flow meter is an exception), if not, replace the pipeline or install it vertically .

The signal is getting weaker or dropping suddenly

Test whether the insulation between the two electrodes of electromagnetic flow meter system is damaged or short-circuited. The resistance value between the two electrodes is normally between 70-100Ω; dirt may deposit in the inner wall of the measuring tube, so the electrodes should be cleaned and wiped, and the lining should not be scratched; check whether the pipe lining is damaged, if yes, replace it.

How to Deal with Typical Faults of Electromagnetic Flow Meters

Unstable zero point

Check whether the medium is filled with the measuring tube and whether there are air bubbles in the medium. If there are air bubbles, an air eliminator can be installed upstream. If the horizontal installation is installed, it can be changed to a vertical installation. Check whether the grounding of the instrument is in good condition; check the conductivity of the medium should not be less than 5μs/cm; check whether the medium is deposited in the measuring tube, and be careful not to scratch the lining when removing.

The flow indication value does not match the actual value

Check whether the fluid in the sensor of the electromagnetic type flow meter is full of pipes and whether there are air bubbles. If there are air bubbles, install an air eliminator upstream; check whether the grounding is in goo condition; Check whether there is a valve upstream of the flowmeter, if so, move it to the downstream or make it fully open; check whether the range setting of the converter is correct, if not, reset it.

The indication value fluctuates in a certain range

Check whether the environmental conditions have changed. If there is a new interference source and other magnetic sources or vibrations that affect the normal operation, the interference should be removed in time or move the magnetic flow meter to another place; Check and test the signal cable, and use insulating tape for end treatment so that the wires, inner shield, outer shield, and shell do not touch each other.
